Who are we


The Guatemalan Community Forestry Association Utz Che’ (meaning “good tree” in the K’iché language) is a civil association formed by community organizations dedicated to the sustainable management of their natural resources, mainly forests, forest plantations, and water sources.

A network that contributes to the comprehensive sustainability of its grassroots community organizations by strengthening capacities in sustainable management of natural resources, community forestry, and local, national, and global advocacy.

Utz Che’ is established as a National Network where which represents various community, indigenous, and peasant groups, with cultural and ethnic diversity and different forms of organization, seeking social inclusion, fair and sustainable development, and respect for the human and territorial rights of the different peoples that make up Guatemala. The organizations associated with Utz Che' have different types of structures, such as Partialities, Cooperatives, Indigenous Communities, Associated Farming Companies (ECA) and Farmers' Associations of the Peoples Mam, Poqomam, Pocomchi, Popti, Achi’, Kiche’, Kaqchiquel, Q’eqchi’, Chorti’ , Q’anjob’al, Xinka and mestizos.

Volunteering and Internships

♦ If you would like to get involved as a volunteer in our processes, this is your opportunity. We welcome talented, motivated, and passionate individuals who can contribute knowledge, innovative ideas, and creativity to help drive our various initiatives in the different areas where we operate.

♦ The internship program is an opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain experience in community forestry, in line with their academic program or their future work in one of the fields related to Utz Che’.
