Located in Aldea San Vicente Buenabaj, Municipality of Momostenango, Department of Totonicapán, the community was founded on September 18, 1687, by Don Diego Vicente (1590-1600). Unable to take the necessary steps due to their traditional status not being recognized by the Guatemalan state, its members decided to legalize their organization as a non-profit association. The main reasons for protecting the forest for the Vicentes community are the benefits of water, collective identity, and belonging to the territory.

The community has a communal forest covering 815 hectares, where the members of the board of directors are responsible for managing and administering forest management, reforestation projects, forest nurseries, and surveillance activities. As part of the organization, all persons over the age of 18 must perform community service.
