Comenz\u00f3 en 1994 con un proyecto forestal en la comunidad de \u00abSacal\u00e1\u00bb, desarrollando actividades en viveros con el fin de crear plantaciones forestales. Su nombre proviene de la palabra k&#8217;aqchikel tikonel, que significa \u00absembrador\u00bb. Actualmente agrupa a 108 comunidades en 7 municipios y su funci\u00f3n consiste en facilitar las acciones de desarrollo en las cadenas de valor, la gesti\u00f3n y la conservaci\u00f3n de los recursos naturales distribuidos en las comunidades a nivel nacional, con especial \u00e9nfasis en la cadena volc\u00e1nica del altiplano occidental de Guatemala, integradas en 11 organizaciones locales de base dedicadas a la gesti\u00f3n comunitaria, la conservaci\u00f3n de los bosques y 18 micro, peque\u00f1as y medianas empresas en las cadenas de valor forestales y agroforestales. Se dedica a la protecci\u00f3n de los ecosistemas, el uso sostenible de los recursos naturales, las alternativas a la econom\u00eda intensiva en carbono basadas en la naturaleza y el emprendimiento verde.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Otra acci\u00f3n realizada por Tikonel es la generaci\u00f3n de pol\u00edticas p\u00fablicas con los organismos reguladores forestales para implementar mecanismos financieros que ofrezcan incentivos forestales a los productores con peque\u00f1as parcelas de tierra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">La asociaci\u00f3n cuenta con una empresa, Coraz\u00f3n del Tejido, dirigida por grupos de mujeres para la producci\u00f3n y comercializaci\u00f3n de productos textiles bajo la marca Rukux Q&#8217;em.
