In this parcialidad, property rights over the communal forest are exercised collectively through the community organization (the Association\/Parcialidad), meaning that membership is limited to partners or associates. It is one of the Parcialidades with the largest number of members, bringing together about a dozen hamlets.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">This organization has a history rooted in the T\u2019ziles ethnic group, whose members were the first to settle in the community around 1600 to 1700; for this reason, they are known as the V\u00e1squez or Tz\u2019iles group.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Their activities focus primarily on the management and administration of the forest they own, implementing forest management practices to ensure the conservation of the natural resources and assets within it, including the restoration of degraded areas through reforestation, the creation of fire protection structures such as firebreaks, nurseries and seed banks, protecting water sources\u2014including the 20 springs located within their territory\u2014and conducting ongoing monitoring within the forest. Similarly, during the end-of-year period, monitoring and protection of areas with Pinabete trees within the forest are intensified, given that during this time these areas are more vulnerable to illegal harvesting of this species.<\/span><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>La Parcialidad V\u00e1squez cuenta con una de las mayores representaciones hist\u00f3ricas de la naturaleza de las parcialidades en Totonicap\u00e1n.
